Sometimes we take it for granted. That one indispensable software tool we use over and over, day after day. Such is the case with a great little tool I’ve been using for almost six years now. It’s called Any Password and if you host web accounts, use forums and frequent websites where usernames and passwords are needed, you’ll love this tool!
There’s both a free version and a pro (paid) version of the software. You can create folders, then under the folders, store specific site information. For example, I frequent a number of forums. I never use the same password, so I create a folder called “forums” . Under it, I create a new password with the forum’s web address as the title. I can store the forum link, username, password and even notes about the site.
It’s great for web hosting accounts. I have a number of servers I manage both my own, and client web sites. For every customer that I create a web host account for, I have to keep track of the server it’s on (hint: folder), the site (the actual entry name) and then unique username and password for each. Now here’s the cool part! Some of my customers have SSL certificates. In the notes section, I can store the SSL cert information, the date it expires and any other notes, such as login for the issuing SSL site.
Any Password is an indispensable tool. It even has a built-in password generator. Select the length, the characters (a..z, A..Z, 0..0) and it will generate strong random passwords for you, that you can quickly copy/paste as needed.
I’ve been using the same tool for almost six years now. It’s stable, I’ve never lost any data, the data is encrypted and you can require a password for the data file to be opened. Six years, one data file, never a loss of any kind, never a bug!
